-Chapter Five-
Zoe

Inside The Orphiean- 7:00pm

"Once more," the photographer told the girls, "Just act natural."

"If I have to smile once more like that, I'll scream," Angie said between flashes. Finally the photo shoot was over and 'N Trance were told they could go back to their bus.

"Hey, wasn't that cool?" Elizabeth ran up to the fast walking Audrey. "I love having pictures taken. And this outfit I got to wear was awesome. Don't you think?"

"Yeah..." Audrey wanted Elizabeth to at least admit what she did. She didn't say anything.

"What kind of friend is she," Audrey thought, "She can have any guy she wants, and she takes the one that I wanted… that I had."

"What's wrong?" Elizabeth could sense something was up with Audrey.

"Nothing."

"I'm not going to cry," Audrey told herself.

Elizabeth quickly grabbed Audrey's shoulders and made her face her, "Audrey, what is wrong?"

"You."

Elizabeth looked shocked for a moment, and then recovered, "What?"

"I saw you. I saw you kiss Taylor."

"Audrey, I didn't kiss him. Well, I did kiss him... but I didn't want to."

"Sure. You just wanted to ruin it for me. Face it, you've never ever wanted me to be happy."

"That is a fucking lie and you know it!"

"No it isn't. It's the truth."

"Audrey, I don't like him!"

"You do!"

"I like Isaac!" Elizabeth yelled too loud. "I mean... I like Lance." The look her friend gave her gave Audrey the idea that she didn't know anymore about Lance.

Chicago (a few days later)- 3:00pm

"Zac? Zac Hanson? Hey, could you sign this?"

Zac looked up from his novel he was busy reading for homework his mother assigned him, startled and saw a rather nondescript girl in a baby blue spaghetti strap summer dress. For a moment he thought she looked familiar, as if he had known her before; the feeling was close to deja vu. Then it was gone. She was about his height, skinny and nervous looking. Her hair was blonde and went past her shoulders, a few pieces lingering in front of her eyes and her dark brown eyes were captivating. No, he was quite sure he had never seen her before.

"Sure," Zac took the piece of paper from her hand. "What's your name?"

"Zoe. My friends call me Pinky."

"Well then I guess I'll call you Pinky."

She blinked at him, frankly startled. Here was Zachary Walker Hanson saying he was her friend after only just meeting him.

"Here you go," Zac handed her the paper back.

"Would you want to go for ice cream?" the girl smiled. Zac noticed how Zoe's smile transformed her face from something over-tense and not exactly hot into something else that was oddly appealing. The word "cute" occurred to him, and that wasn't a good word to afflict a girl of her age with, but this one was when she smiled. He smiled back before he could roadblock it behind his lips.

"No, thanks," he said.

"Oh come on, if you hit the books any longer you'll give yourself a headache. You've been at it for two hours already. And you shouldn't tire yourself before a concert."

"How would you know that?"

"Um... I've been watching you."

"Well, could you stop," he said, more sharply than he had intended. "I don't like people staring at me."

"I'm sorry."

He felt sorry for her, he didn't mean to be so harsh. He looked at his watch. "Well, I've got a few hours to blow," he took her hand, "Let's go."

Audrey's Phone Call (in the hotel)- 3:30pm

"Hello, is Danny there?" Audrey asked full of energy.

"Yeah," she knew it was Josh as he screamed Danny's name.

"Hello?" Now it was Danny.

"Hey, you told me to call you."

"Oh yeah. What's up?"

"Not much, you?"

"Nothing, we just ordered a pizza and now Josh and Eric are fighting over what movie to watch."

Audrey laughed, "Cool."

"So, would you want to join us?"

"Aren't the guys getting sick of me?"

"Nah, they all luv ya!" So do I, he added mentally. "What room number do you have?"

"Umm... 509."

"Really? That's cool. We've got 511."

"That's just..."

"...next door," he finished the sentence. "Come over." They both hung up.

Audrey quickly walked up to the door the joined the two rooms together and opened it up. With one fist she hit the door loudly, "Helloooo boys?"

The door swung open to reveal all four boys in the room. She let out a loud laugh, when she saw Ric was just in his boxers.

"What?" he questioned her.

"Nothing," she answered in between fits of giggles. "Aren't you cold?"

"No, just comfortable."

"Well, you going to have to choose for us Audrey," Eric held up two movies. "Either 'Scream 2' or 'Can't Hardly Wait.'"

"Um, 'Can't Hardly Wait' sounds good to me," Audrey took a seat on the edge of one of the beds.

Eric popped the movie in, and the five teenagers waited for their pizza to arrive.

Hotel Lobby- 3:40pm

Elizabeth looked at her watch again, they never went on stage till eight, and she was completely bored out of her mind.

"You look bored," Isaac said sitting beside her on the bench.

"Yeah." For some reason, Elizabeth didn't feel like yelling at him or telling him to get lost.

"So, you like Taylor, huh?" he laughed.

"No," Elizabeth felt her face flood with red as she remembered the kiss. "I don't. I don't think he likes me either. I think he was just mad at Audrey."

"Yeah, Taylor can be obsessive about getting what he wants."

"Oh, kinda like his big brother?"

"Yeah, kinda."

"Isaac, what do you even see in me? Why do you like me? Why don't you go after someone better," she sighed. She didn't see it before, but he was a dream. And she was losing this dream. She suddenly had an idea for a song and tore out a pad of paper from her pocket.

"Inspiration just hits you whenever it wants, doesn't it?"

"Yeah, hold on a second." Finally she was finished writing.

"Can I read," Isaac asked and took the paper. He silently read it off the sheet.

When I sit and dream, the skies cry with me. Now that I'm alone, your thoughts still lay with me. In my shadowed dreams I need you. I need you now. Oh baby. You lost me. And I lost you. I'll never have you. Never again. But I want you, I feel you. I need you now. Oh baby.

"It's only a little bit," Elizabeth quickly grabbed the paper from Isaac's hands.

"It's good," he smiled. "I like it. And was that just thought of out of the bloom, or did it have meaning?"

"It... it had meaning," Elizabeth brought her eyes up to Isaac's and sighed. He was so good looking. And like the song said, she needed him.

"Isaac... I..."

"Don't say anything," Isaac pulled Elizabeth a bit closer and his lips slightly touched hers. Suddenly, out of the moment, Elizabeth pulled Isaac even closer and pressed her lips against his hard. He was overtaken by her sudden aggresivness, but thought nothing of it as he slipped his tongue into her mouth.

Not many people said anything as they passed the two kissing hungrily on the bench, and both of them didn't care. They were both lost in each other.

On the way back from the ice cream store- 4:00pm

Zac had came to realize, that Zoe was a great person to be with. She was smart, maybe too smart. He figured her IQ level was probably 140. He had thought that she was either 14 or younger, but it turned out that she was almost 17. A plus was she liked all the things he did… Lazertag, video games, and rollerblading. And from his point of view, it seemed like she was single. But he quickly shook his head when he thought that as a picture of Angie came floating into the back of his head.

"You know, I've never had such a good time in a long time," Zac said stopping and looking into Zoe's eyes, placing his hands on her hips and pulling her close.

"Zac, you're sweet," she smiled nervously.

"Why is she so nervous," Zac thought. This girl is too strange.

"But I think I have to go now," she whispered. But it was too late, a hard hand came down on Zac's shoulder.

"Zoe, is this Hanson freak bothering you?" Zac looked up to see Nick Carter's snarling face look upon him.

Zac was freaked. Nick had been so nice to him before, and now he looked like he was going to kill him.

"Um, Zac meet my boyfriend," Zoe grinned.

"Zoe... I thought..."

Nick grabbed Zac by the collar of his shirt and pinned him up against the wall outside the hotel. "Don't fucking mess with my chick," he punched him once in the stomach.

"Nick! Don't hit him!" Zoe tried to pull him away but he pushed her.

Nick hit him once more in the gut, and Zac began coughing. He realized just how much of a punch Nick could pack. And he began to wonder if he'd still be conscious as his fist hit him again.

"NICK?!" Brian Littrell ran up and pulled Nick away from Zac, as Zac fell down onto his knees. "What the fuck are you doing to him? He's just a kid."

"He was messin' with Zoe," Nick stated angrily.

"He wasn't Nick, I'm serious," Zoe looked at him with pleading eyes. "Just leave him alone."

"Here," Brian reached forward with one hand and helped Zac up. "Do you think you can walk man?"

"Yeah, I'm fine B-Rok," Zac breathed. "Just a bit out of air."

Zac looked up to see Nick walk inside the hotel with Zoe by his side. He now knew he shouldn't have gone for the ice cream. He suddenly felt very guilty about having a good time with Zoe. His eyes lit up as he thought of Angie and quickly made his way through the hotel to her room.
